Susan B. Anthony believed as the colonists had in 1775, that there should be "no taxation without representation." If women could be taxed, they should be able to vote. If women could be arrested, they should be able to serve on a jury.       Susan B. Anthony (1820 to 1906.).

1878 At the request of Susan B. Anthony, Sen. A.A. Sargent (R-CA) introduces the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Congress.

 

1890 Since statehood in 1890, Wyoming was the first state in the nation having the right to vote.

1892 Therese A. Jenkins and Cora Carleton, alternates from Wyoming, are the first women to be officially seated at a Republican National Convention.

1894 Republican Estelle Reel of Wyoming is the first woman elected to state office when she becomes Wyoming's second superintendent of public instruction.

1924 For the first time, women are given equal representation on the Republican National Committee with a rule change providing for a national committeewoman and committeeman from each state

1939 WFRW Founder: Doris Kooi Reynolds.

 

The Wyoming Federation has 12 clubs throughout the state. Clubs hold informational meetings, host candidate forums, hold leadership conferences and promote voter registration. WFRW donate books to libraries, sponsor delegates to Girls State and staff educational booths at state fairs.

Train women to become effective Republican Party leaders.

Inform our members and the electorate through political education.

Offer a source of year-round service by Republican Women volunteers.

Publish WFRW quarterly publication and other political action materials.

Cooperate with the Party organization by undertaking special assignments and campaign projects.

Plan local and statewide meetings to broaden and unify the interest and education of its members.

The Wyoming Federation takes pride in the fact that since statehood in 1890, Wyoming women have had the right to vote (the first in the nation) and have served on juries. From our courthouses to the U.S. House of Representatives, Wyoming Republican women are serving responsibly in elective office. Not to be overlooked, Vice President Dick Cheney is a proud product of Wyoming.
